GigaDevice Launches High-Performance MCU Family, Pushing Limits in Compute, Memory, and Multimedia

Chinese semiconductor firm GigaDevice has introduced its most powerful microcontroller family to date: the GD32H78D/77D series. Billed as delivering a "triple breakthrough" in extreme compute, massive storage, and full-featured multimedia, the new MCUs are designed to redefine the performance ceiling for domestic high-end embedded systems.

At the heart of the series is the high-performance Arm Cortex-M7 core. The flagship GD32H78D variant runs at a remarkable 750MHz, the highest frequency in GigaDevice's GD32 portfolio, while the GD32H77D operates at 600MHz. The chips achieve an impressive CoreMark score of 3736 and a performance density of 4.98 CoreMark/MHz, enabling them to handle compute-intensive tasks like motor control with ease.

The memory architecture is equally groundbreaking. The MCUs integrate a substantial 10MB of on-chip Flash memory (split into 2MB for execution and 8MB for storage) and 1.2MB of SRAM. Notably, 640KB of this SRAM is Tightly Coupled Memory (TCM), which runs at the CPU frequency for zero-wait-state execution, eliminating a traditional performance bottleneck.

The series marks a significant leap in multimedia capabilities. It integrates a MIPI DSI (2-lane) interface capable of driving modern displays at resolutions up to 1024x768 without a bridge chip. It also features an Image Processing Accelerator (IPA), a TFT-LCD controller, and a digital camera interface for smooth 60fps graphics and efficient image capture. For audio, it includes multiple SAI and I²S interfaces and an S/PDIF output for high-fidelity sound.

Connectivity is comprehensive, covering 8x UART, 4x I2C, 6x SPI, 2x Ethernet, 3x CAN-FD, high-performance analog converters (2x 14-bit ADC, 1x 12-bit ADC, 2x 12-bit DAC), and high-speed data interfaces (USB HS OTG, USB FS, 2x SDIO). This makes the series suitable for demanding applications like industrial HMIs, professional audio equipment, medical devices, and advanced smart home systems.
